KUALA LUMPUR (April 28): Bursa Malaysia ended the morning trading session higher on continued buying demand in selected heavyweights.

At lunch break, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 10.36 points firmer at 1,596.34 from Wednesday’s close of 1,585.98.

The benchmark index opened 7.64 points higher at 1,593.62 and moved between 1,590.17 and 1,597.52 throughout the session.

On the broader market, gainers outpaced losers 483 to 325, while 415 counters were unchanged, 1,067 untraded and 82 others suspended.

Total turnover stood at 1.4 billion units worth RM1 billion.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd said the FBM KLCI was expected to trend within a narrow range of 1,580-1,590 on Thursday with the focus back on plantations stocks following Indonesia’s export ban on crude palm oil (CPO) which pushed CPO prices to above the RM7,500-per-tonne level.

On Wednesday, Indonesia announced the widening of its palm oil export ban to include CPO and other products, in addition to refined, bleached and deodorised (RBD) palm olein effective Thursday.

Among the Bursa heavyweights, Malayan Banking Bhd gained three sen to RM9.01, Public Bank Bhd added one sen to RM4.72, Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd lifted 28 sen to RM10.20, IHH Healthcare Bhd rose seven sen to RM6.64, and CIMB Group Holdings Bhd increased two sen to RM5.17.

Of the actives, newly-listed MN Holdings Bhd went up 2.5 sen to 23.5 sen, Techna-X Bhd improved half-a-sen to 11.5 sen, Anzo Holdings Bhd lost 2.5 sen to one sen, Widad Group Bhd slid half-a-sen to 36 sen, and Sapura Energy Bhd was flat at 3.5 sen.

On the index board, the FBM 70 improved 120.7 points to 13,649.49, the FBM Emas Index expanded 77.68 points to 11,415.48, the FBMT 100 Index strengthened 77.93 points to 11,075.61, and the FBM Emas Shariah Index climbed 90.31 points to 11,972.26.

However, the FBM ACE decreased 30.76 points to 5,540.01.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index advanced 72.87 points to 16,872.89, the Industrial Products and Services Index was 4.07 points better at 210.24, and the Plantation Index improved 50.36 points to 8,768.56.
