KUALA LUMPUR (June 2): Global semiconductor equipment billings grew 5% year-over-year to US$24.7 billion in the first quarter of 2022.

In a statement on its website on Wednesday (June 1), the US-based Semiconductor Equipment & Materials International (SEMI) in its Worldwide Semiconductor Equipment Market Statistics (WWSEMS) report said quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q) billings in the seasonally soft first quarter declined 10%.

SEMI president and CEO Ajit Manocha said year-on-year (y-o-y) first-quarter equipment revenue growth is in sync with positive forecasts for 2022 as the semiconductor industry continues its robust increase of fab capacity.

“North America and Europe logged healthy q-o-q rises in equipment spending as they intensify efforts to bolster domestic chipmaking,” he said.
