OSLO (Sept 24): Norwegian Air will dispute a demand from Norwegian authorities to pay close to 400 million crowns (US$46.6 million) for not meeting obligations under the European Union emissions trading system (ETS) last year, the firm said on Friday.

"We are prepared to meet our EU ETS obligations for 2020 but dispute the fee and will seek a legal clarification," Norwegian Air chief executive officer Geir Karlsen said in a statement.

Norwegian Air said it was unable to fulfil its obligations last year because it was under reconstruction.

The budget carrier emerged in May this year from six months of bankruptcy court procedures in Dublin and Oslo.
